Oogie Boogie Tini
Oogie Boogie Tini is a delicious cocktail, or shooter if preferred, that combines creamy bourbon and rum with the flavors of roasted marshmallows, vanilla, and cinnamon. It's an ideal choice for staying warm by the bonfire.
Hotel Tango
Although the craft distillery movement thrived in Indianapolis, Indiana, it took 80 years after Prohibition ended for a running distillery to emerge in the city. In 2013, Travis Barnes founded Hotel Tango—an artisan distillery, not a hotel. Situated in Fletcher Place Neighborhood, this "Eclectic Americana" facility boasts the title of being the country's first service-disabled, combat veteran-owned distillery.
Travis and his wife Hilary inspired the name Hotel Tango, taking from their initials and using NATO's alphanumeric letter system. After rebranding to incorporate a more military feel, the bottles and labels have vastly improved.
With a diverse range of products including bourbon and orangecello, Hotel Tango has now introduced its first bottle in the Unofficial HT Series. This lineup is specific to flavored whiskies aimed at elevating their tasting room's cocktail offerings. The inaugural flavor? 'Shmallow—a tantalizing toasted marshmallow bourbon featured in Hotel Tango’s S’more Old Fashioned.
'Shmallow Toasted Marshmallow Bourbon
Quite possibly biased due to my love for toasted marshmallow flavors, I still recognize that flavored whiskies on the market can be hit or miss. I put Hotel Tango’s ‘Shmallow Toasted Marshmallow Bourbon to the test and yes, it genuinely tastes like a toasted marshmallow.
Rumchata
In 2009, Tom Maas, a once-retired distiller, crafted RumChata, which has since become one of the top cream liqueurs worldwide and recently earned recognition as one of the fastest-growing brands in the U.S. This horchata-inspired, rum-based beverage consists of five-times distilled Caribbean rum, cinnamon, vanilla, sugar, and Wisconsin dairy cream. The inspiration for this liqueur comes from Mexican horchata—a plant-based drink usually made from rice and flavored with cinnamon and sugar.
Tom Maas retired at 50 after serving as director of bourbon for renowned brands such as Jim Beam and Knob Creek but soon found himself eager to return to the world of distilling. After tasting horchata for the first time in 2006, he quickly became captivated by the idea of creating a spiked version.
