Secret Ingredient: Better than Bullion

January 30, 2018This Halloween make an adult treat by infusing candy flavors into plain vodka. It real easy. Unwrap candies and divide them into separate piles if they have different colors like jolly ranchers or lifesavers. Next, put them individual mason jars with lids and add enough vodka to cover the candies plus a half an inch more. Let sit, shaking occasionally, until the candies are dissolved 4-8 hours depending on the candy.
Some of the candies will need to be strained through a fine sieve or cheese cloth because there will be solid parts left that will make it gritty like smarties or those heart shaped candies. Some may need to be strained because the sugar or wax will be floating in it like candy corns.
Good candies to try are hard candies like Jolly Ranchers, Life Savers, Peppermint, Butterscotch, and Red Hots. Other candies that are good, Skittles, Starburst, Jelly Bellys, Conversation Hearts, Candy Cane, Lemonheads, and bubble gum.
Besides the shot described below you can take a straight shot of these if you like or make mixed drinks with them just like the infused vodkas you get at the store. This doesn't have to be vodka either. You can flavor any liquor you like, rum, moonshine, gin, tequila, brandy.
To make the test tube shots
Fill the tube or shot glass about half up with one of the flavored vodkas then top with sparkling water or seltzer.
The amount of vodka will depend on how sweet that particular infusion is. I had to add more spritzer to the candy corns because it was way too sweet for my taste.
