Sweet southern stewed green beans perfect for a pitch-in or pot luck. Not as "single" as some of my dishes but then again this is something you will probably make to share with others. From the recipe book of "The Jazz Cooker" it was served at the restaurant and one of my favorite sides.
I don't mind using canned beans for this recipe (the 3lb can is the largest I could find at the store) but if you prefer to use fresh--double the cooking time to 2 or more hours so they become nice and tender.
Recipe
Ingredients
Directions
Melt butter in large stockpot over medium . Add bacon and fry until crispy about 5 minutes. Lower temperature to low then add the onion and saute until translucent. About another 5 minutes.
Add sugar, salt and pepper, pork base, and green beans then water and simmer till tender. Fresh green beans will take a few hours, canned takes about 20-30 minutes. Serve when ready.
